It seems that sports like NFL and NBA, give cities reasons to hate each other.
Hockey is also up there in the list, and don't try going to an MLB Phillies game in another jersey.

American cities hatred for each other will be lesson. Gangsters will have to get creative and find other reasons to hate each other. And we know that gangsters aren't that creative.

So what do you think?

I honestly have the complete opposite view on that. I would much rather have a friendly rivalry play out on a football field instead of an angry rivalry with guns. I have always seen sports as a way to deter not just cities but countries from fighting each other. The olympics does not cause wars, it does create friendly rivalry and competition.

I think you are well intentioned but I just do not agree with you. Granted there is still violence before, during and after sports events but it is minimal, not widespread. Gangs do not recognize civility, they are often indiscriminate in what and how they do the horrible things they do. To put it another way, one has very little to do with the other.

No, you have faulty thinking and conclusions.

Gangsters by definition are criminals, some are members of organized crime and many are run from behind prison walls.

Gangsters have been depicted in American popular culture in films like The Godfather, War, Hell Up in Harlem and Goodfellas and in television such as The Sopranos.

The Godfather features Italians interested in drugs and hollywood. War is about a former CIA assassin who works for the Japanese Yakuza and then the Chinese Triad boss Li Chang.

Hell Up in Harlem is a blaxploitation film. Goodfellas are casino gamblers, The Sopranos deals with the New Jersey based Italiam-American mobster Tony Soprano.

American cities do not hate each other. Inner city violence is usually about racism, drugs, gang warfare, territorial boundaries, and the reasons are decrease in adult mentors, school failures, decrease in after-school progams and similar failure by adults in the lives of children. Children from poorer neighborhoods often turn to gangs as both protection and a place to find love and understanding.

Police say 80% of crime throughout the country are committed by gang members.

no, we will have more violence.

Gang violence happens within the same city, not between cities. US sport fans are not like European soccer fans - they never fight between each other (probably b/c it would look pathetic compared to what is going on during the game)

training to become an athlete is an alternative to joining a gang. Removing pro sports will remove most of the reason to train.

I think its because of beer. In America, without imports we have the crappiest beer known to mankind. Seriously. Our beer is full of formaldehyde and looks and tastes like watered-down urine. Canada has Molson, Labatt's, Kokanee, etc. Small brewers are helping out here in America but until we get the garbage out of the stores, violence will continue.

No.Increasing violence is due to faulty education, value system and lack of moral education.Decreasing bondage and love in family, lack of emotional support in family, huge money in hand, rampant sex and drug abuse are the reasons. The church has lost its hold on people. Is it possible to restore moral values? Can you introduce moral education? Can you bring back old joint family? If you can, violence will come down, otherwise forget the issue.

Gangsters? What?

Most of "sports" related crime is fat drunk white guys beating on each other.

Gang fights/wars are typically over turf or drugs, not what team someone supports.

I award you no points, and may god have mercy upon your soul.
