Doing a sociology essay on euthanasia and organ transplant, but not sure how to word my topic or come up with a question based on the social (society) aspect of these things, without getting into a law debate. any ideas?

Ok, so here goes. Popculture and sociology-- you gotta love it.

Do a comparitive analysis about euthanasia and organ transplant and either tv series or on a "deserving" population.

You could choose the TV series House, but I think using Nip/Tuck would be a whole lot more interesting. A few seasons ago they had a long, drawn out season surrounding organ harvesting. It was wild and crazy, but would be a great reference for your paper.

As you know, that show covers just about everything. Perhaps you could also consider the effects such shows have on juries in considering euthanasia and orgran transplant cases.

Or you could analyze the extent to which such shows are accurate in their portrayal of the issue in demographic area X.

If you had time, you could come with a 10-question essay, complete with a lichert scale to assess knowledge of enthanasia, organ trans4plants, shows having featured such issues (Nip/Tuck, House, ER, CIS and I believe the Total Recall movie). If you're on a college campus, you could get 50 undergrad students and 50 graduate students or (medical students) to fill it out.

If you're willing to do the work, you could email it to some folks (have them send it back) and interview on the spot.

This would not only impress your professor, but give you a jump off point for potentially useful data in classes ranging from sociology (of course) to business, medicine, law, entertainment --whatever. If your undergrad (and I think you are) you could use this topic over and over, adding to it and by the time you apply for grad school or PhD program, you'd be a natural expert on this...ok, so I digress..

The controversy around a deserving population when it comes to transplants would be helpful so. So your q'naire could look something like this:

sex _ year (in school) __ (major) __ nationality (if all american than region (north, south, east, west, mid-west etc)

Do you know anyone who's every recieved organ transplant?

How familiar are you with Euthanasia not at all __ a little_ some what __ a fair amount __ alot

Would you donate an organ? /Do you check it on your driver's license

Do you know anyone who has had a transplant

Can you think of a time you've heard of a euthanasia case ( on tv elsewhere)

Its usual to mention Hitler and euthanasia, but remember that Churchill in 1910 proposed in Parliment the termination of "life not worthy of life". In 30's Germany it was carried out secretly by SS medical students and doctors and then became a much bigger operation when the nazis got tacit approval from the german catholic church ,(many preist still objected though)victims bodies wee used for research. You could easily stretch it to focus on medical euthenasia and sterilisation in Gemanys deathcamps...i.e.forget the jew **** and focus on the compulsory euthenasia of the unfit and useless like the old and the kids. There is documentation and literiture on the medical experiments which I'm sure involves transplant rsearch. Most of the medical victims were 'terminated' with an injection of benzene to the heart muscle.I met someone at my mates hous a few years ago .When he was a boy he was in a nazi camp and they cut a peice of lower leg bone out to test gangrene infections and new medical potions for the army medical service.most of those experimented on started smelling pretty quick and were killed .Because him and a few others survived they kept doing blood and simple tissue tests to see what magic formula had protected him, this was a passport for life to him.Canada may be worth a root as regards euthenasia and also look at the history of disabled people and how they have been sterilised and forced to have abortions. It was normal to secretly sterilise women with radiation. On the subject of organ transplant check out china which has a dark history in tissue matching prisionrs on the international organ market and aslo Japan where the shame of debt has forced many people to sell organs or face public disgrace.

Ahh, leadership. Well, leadership builds better character, higher confidence, and more success in life. Being able to help others will help you become a better person. You'll be able to open your eyes and mind to the world and influence the people around you. Leadership helps you develop better communication skills, which is essential in the business world. Being able to work with other people as an effective team is important and can be achieved with leadership. This is all my opinion. I hope this helps you some. :D

I am not sure if this is what you are needing, but.....It is about dogs, but it makes some good points. Sometimes the pain is too much and it is time to let go.

May I Go Now?

May I go now?

Do you think the time is right?

May I say goodbye to pain filled days

and endless lonely nights?

I've lived my life and done my best,

an example tried to be.

So can I take that step beyond

and set my spirit free?

I didn't want to go at first,

I fought with all my might.

But something seems to draw me now

to a warm and loving light.

I want to go

I really do.

It's difficult to stay.

But I will try as best I can

to live just one more day.

To give you time to care for me

and share your love and fears.

I know you're sad and afraid,

because I see your tears.

I'll not be far,

I promise that, and hope you'll always know

that my spirit will be close to you

wherever you may go.

Thank you so for loving me.

You know I love you too,

that's why it's hard to say goodbye

and end this life with you.

So hold me now just one more time

and let me hear you say,

because you care so much for me,

you'll let me go today

PUT ME TO REST

Time to let me go my friend,

Because my life no-one can mend,

It’s better to let me go this way,

Than watch me suffer night and day.

I'm happy to go, my time has come,

My quality of life is no longer fun,

I’ve been so ill, so it’s not a bad thing,

To let me go forever resting.

Stay with me till I drift away,

Fast asleep forever I pray,

To relieve me from suffering and pain,

What more can I ask from my best friend.

Don't be sad, I'll be free from pain,

Never to be ill ever again,

I know you'll miss me being there,

But all the memories you have to share.

Thank you for being my best friend,

And all my needs that you did tend,

Try not to be sad, try not to cry,

Now is the time to say goodbye

Put me to rest.
